Popular in Europe for decades, art hanging systems that are based on a hanging rail have obtained mass acceptance.
In North America, these hanging rail systems, which have had broad appeal within galleries, museums, universities and libraries, are now gaining acceptance in American homes. These are new versions of picture rail moulding that was commonly built into homes beginning in the Victorian era thru the Arts & Crafts era (circa 1880’s – 1920’s).
A modern hanging rail system typically consists of a horizontal track, or rail, mounted on a wall near the ceiling from which is hung a rod or cable. The system is completed with hooks that connect art to the
rods or
cables.
